Product Details:

Type J thermocouple is a very common and general purpose thermocouple. It has smaller temperature range and a shorter lifespan at higher temperatures. It consist of positive leg  made of an Iron wire and negative leg made of an Constantan ( Copper-Nickel ) alloy wire. Due to the Curie Point of the iron at 770 °C Type J has a limited temperature range of -40°C  to 750°C.It should not be used at high temperatures in an oxidizing atmosphere as iron undergoes a molecular change and permanently loses its standard voltage output versus temperature. It does not recover when the iron is cooled. Type J has sensitivity of approx 50 microvolts/ degree C .The expenses and reliability of Type J is same as Type K. For proper working of J Type thermocouple reduction atmosphere is desired and use at low temperature  is also not recommended.

Recos S Type  Thermocouple(Platinum Rhodium - 10% / Platinum): The Type S is used in very high temperature applications. It is commonly found in the BioTech and Pharmaceutical industries. It is sometimes used in lower temperature applications because of its high accuracy and stability. The type S is often used with a ceramic protection tube.

Type S Temperature Range:

Type K thermocouples usually work in most applications as they are nickel based and exhibit good corrosion resistance. It is the most common sensor calibration type providing the widest operating temperature range. Due to its reliability and accuracy the Type K thermocouple is used extensively at temperatures up to 2300°F (1260°C). This type of thermocouple should be protected with a suitable metal or ceramic protection tube, especially in reducing atmospheres. In oxidizing atmospheres, such as electric furnaces, tube protection is not always necessary when other conditions are suitable; however, it is recommended for cleanliness and general mechanical protection. Type K will generally outlast Type J because the JP wire rapidly oxidizes, especially at higher temperatures.

Thermocouple Type S can be used in oxidising or inert atmospheres continuously at temperatures up to 1600°C and for brief periods up to 1700°C. For high temperature work, insulators and sheaths made from high purity recrystallised alumina are used. In fact, in all but the cleanest of applications, the device needs protection in the form of an impervious sheath since small quantities of metallic vapour can cause deterioration and a reduction in the EMF generated.

Continuous use at high temperatures also causes degradation, and there is the possibility of diffusion of rhodium into the pure platinum conductor - leading to a reduction in output.

Temperature sensor is a device that is designed to measure the degree of hotness or coolness in an object. The working of a temperature meter depends upon the voltage across the diode. The temperature change is directly proportional to the diode’s resistance. The cooler the temperature, lesser will be the resistance, and vice-versa.

An RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) is a sensor whose resistance changes as its temperature changes. The resistance increases as the temperature of the sensor increases. The resistance vs temperature relationship is well known and is repeatable over time. An RTD is a passive device. It does not produce an output on its own. External electronic devices are used to measure the resistance of the sensor by passing a small electrical current through the sensor to generate a voltage. Typically 1 mA or less measuring current, 5 mA maximum without the risk of self-heating.

RTDs are built to several standardized curves and tolerances. The most common standardized curve is the ‘DIN’ curve. The curve describes the resistance vs temperature characteristics of a Platinum, 100 ohm sensor, the standardized tolerances, and the measurable temperature range.

The DIN standard specifies a base resistance of 100 ohms at 0°C, and a temperature coefficient of .00385 Ohm/Ohm/°C. The nominal output of a DIN RTD sensor is shown below:

DIN Class A: ±(0.15 + .002 |T|°C)
